Residencies and Workshops

Jennylin Duany and Elizabeth Doud have been working in the field of performance and interdisciplinary mediums, and education collectively for the past fifteen years. Both artists have taught workshops for professionals, college students and youth, and community groups in the field of writing, object theatre, performance, voice and movement. For this project, the performers have designed several different workshop possibilities to address themes of the work, and performance techniques at large. These residency structures are versatile to meet student and community needs, with the goal of serving a diverse pool of participants from all disciplines. Both artists are interested in working with presenters to use pre performance residency activities to develop audiences by setting a context of the work for their patrons. Workshops can be conducted in Spanish and English, and all degrees of bilingualism in any language are welcome elements of the workshop process.

POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES

Object and Vocal Exploration for Performers
This workshop addresses the expectations and perceptions of the body and self in relationship to objects and voice. Through journaling, vocal and movement improvisations, participants will perform a personal investigation from a place of neutrality and heightened awareness. The workshop will incorporate the use of objects, text, vocalization and contemplation of our performance attributes to explore expression in unknown territory. This workshop is geared towards performing artists.

Voice Your Hunger
Designed for students, women, and artists who want to be more comfortable in their own skins, particularly fat women-yes, fat-in the robust sense of the word. This workshop is aimed at cultivating a sense of body awareness, and extracting stories and improvising with movement and voice to create a body history. Employing the observations gleaned from these exercises, we explore the perception of self: who we think we are, who we think we should be and how the public sees us. This workshop is the curtain unveiling of the self. Through body awareness exercises, vocal improvisation, and relating to objects, we will deconstruct the perception of our bodies, characters and relationships in order to explore the beauty of simplicity. How looking inwards we can embrace a fortune of storylines, and character development.
